Aging of insulating materials

Aging of insulation materials directly affects the reliability and service life of electrical and electronic equipment.

Unlike other materials, such as metals, the properties of insulating materials are quite prone to change over time. In the long-term operation or storage of electrical and electronic equipment, under the action of different aging factors, insulating materials, especially organic insulating materials, will undergo a series of chemical (degradation, oxidation and crosslinking, etc.) changes, leading to the decomposition of insulating materials, the generation of low molecular volatiles, the appearance of pores, liquid viscosity changes, The surface of solid materials is sticky, brittle, carbonized, polarity increases, discoloration, cracking and deformation, so that irreversible changes in performance occur, gradually lose the original functional characteristics, this phenomenon is called aging.

The aging of insulation materials includes thermal aging, atmospheric aging, electrical aging and mechanical aging. Thermal aging is mainly the long-term combined action of heat and oxygen on insulating materials. Atmospheric aging is mainly the long-term combined action of light (especially ultraviolet), oxygen, ozone, water and other chemical factors. Electric aging is mainly the long-term combined action of electric field, heat and oxygen. Mechanical aging is mainly the combined action of mechanical force, heat and oxygen. In addition, high-energy rays, biological and microbial effects are also factors that cannot be ignored. Various free radicals in aging play an important role in the development of aging.

The following focuses on the thermal aging and temperature resistance grade of insulating materials. Temperature is the most important factor affecting the normal aging rate of insulating materials. For various insulation systems, the heat resistance index of insulation materials and the heat resistance grade of insulation system shall be evaluated respectively according to the prescribed aging test method. See [EC60216 standard]. The heat resistance index is composed of two parameters, the temperature index and the half-life temperature difference. The temperature index is the Celsius temperature corresponding to the specified life (usually 20,00h) under certain test conditions. The temperature corresponding to half life is another temperature index, and the half-life temperature difference is the difference between the two temperature indexes. Different heat resistance grades of motor or insulation system must choose the corresponding heat resistance temperature, Jiujiang Xinxing insulation material production heat resistance grade from grade A to grade C (heat resistance temperature of 120 degrees to 200 degrees) epoxy glass cloth laminate, each material can provide the corresponding IEC test report, you can rest assured to choose, welcome to consult.
